Hours spent at work can be draining, and that drain can often negatively affect your daily productivity. If you want to boost your performance and feel energetic while you do it, we’ve got you covered. Here are 10 simple tips to help productivity come easily at work.
#1 Stay well rested.
Sleep deprivation leads to decreased productivity and satisfaction, lack of focus, lower innovation, higher stress levels and a greater chance of developing unethical attitudes or behaviors. To put it simply, better sleep habits boost productivity. Promoting healthy sleep habits among employees will not only lead to a happier and more efficient workplace, but will ultimately better your chance of success.
#2 Eat healthy snacks.
Junk food can bog you down both physically and mentally, so fuel your nutrition with fruits and vegetables to increase energy levels. Encouraging a healthy culture among employees will make for an overall better business.
#3 Take breaks.
If you have long tasks ahead of you, taking regularly timed breaks will help improve your focus. While it’s crucial you stay dedicated to your work, it’s important to remember that slow and steady sometimes wins the race. Take breathers throughout the day so you can give your all to the task at hand.
#4 Move around.
Fit in small doses of exercise by taking a quick walk or stretching your body to get your blood pumping. Not only will you feel more refreshed when you return to the office, but you’ll be ready to tackle the rest of the day with enthusiasm and sharp focus.
#5 Create a to-do list.
Break down your list of tasks in order of importance to improve your focus. By having your top priorities at hand, you’ll be able to set your sights and efforts on what’s truly important. Also, set goals for yourself at the start of each day or each week. If you begin with a specific task in mind, you’ll find it’s far easier to get the job done.
#6 Don’t take on too much at once.
Multitasking can lead to confusion and a lack of concentration. Take tasks one at a time to maintain your focus and attention. It can also be helpful to track how much time you spend on each task so you don’t get caught up putting too much of your attention toward something that doesn’t warrant it.
#7 Listen to your favorite music.
Music can not only boost your mood and drown out workplace chatter, but can also improve your performance and productivity by as much at 10 percent. Bring your headphones to work and try jamming out to your favorite tunes to help you stay at the top of your game all day long.
#8 Eliminate distractions.
Clean up the clutter in your office. If you can afford to, turn off non-work related notifications. Eliminating the unnecessary helps you zero in on the tasks that demand your fullest attention.
#9 Avoid unnecessary meetings.
If your attendance is not crucial, unnecessary meetings will only waste your time, lower your productivity, distract you from your priorities and leave you feeling tired. If the meeting’s agenda isn’t essential to your own agenda, see if you can take that time to spend on more pressing matters.
#10 Stand up during meetings and phone calls.
Standing instead of sitting leads to less time wasted with chatter, and has shown to help get things rolling sooner. During your next phone call or meeting, try standing up to help you save time and increase efficiency at work.
