Are you starting your own business? If so, there are probably two words that keep floating around in your head. We’re talking a business plan.
Business plans are essentially the “blueprint” to your goals and dreams. But while crafting a well-thought-out business plan is important, you don’t have to spend months compiling 100-plus pages of text, graphs and the like to be successful.
So, do you really need a business plan after all? maybe not. Here are three reasons why you don’t need a business plan.
1. There’s Only So Much You Can Plan For
You can spend months devising a solid business plan, but the first time something unexpected happens, your business plan can (and will!) go out the window. The reality of business (and life for that matter) is that you need to expect the unexpected. The downside is, you can’t see into the future… but the upside is that a huge part of owning your own biz’ is taking things in stride, learning from your mistakes and adapting.
2.Timeliness is Important
Business plans tend to be lengthy, requiring lots of time just to compose the initial plan. Some business owners spend months just curating a business plan alone before making a single penny. But in this economy, timeliness is important. This doesn’t mean you can start a business tomorrow without being thoughtful and putting in genuine effort, but if you’re spending lots of time creating a business plan, you might miss your chance at something innovative, and might want to consider re-prioritizing your time.
3. Businesses Require Action
Ultimately, building a successful business requires action, not just writing. For some, business plans become a crutch for entrepreneurs who are afraid to take the next step and start doing. At the end of the day, businesses are built on hard work and hustle, not just a fancy business plan.
